They aren’t close to each other and we did them on two different boats, in case you were wondering. The Cenderawasih Bay portion was aboard the Shakti while Komodo was aboard the Pindito. Whale sharks and deserted islands was the big draw in Cenderawasih. Perfect sea conditions and favorable weather made for several days of amazing reef dives, snorkels with the biggest of the sharks and some afternoons on a beach we had all to ourselves.

Whalesharks love the fishing platforms in Cenderawasih Bay and aren’t shy about hanging out with snorkelers long after the fish they’re after have been hauled onto the platform. The sharks aren’t the only amazing part of this area, stunning soft coral reefs and amazing islands round out the experience.
